St. Catherine’s Monastery Tour from Sharm El Sheikh – What to Expect:
The excursion is available on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Starting early in the morning from Sharm el Sheikh, the trip to St. Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai offers a chance to explore a place rich in history and significance in the Middle East.
We will pick you up from your hotel around 5:30 AM (exact time will be confirmed after booking). The journey through the Sinai desert takes about three hours, offering remarkable views of mountains and landscapes that seem to come straight from Biblical times.
Along the way, we pause for about 15 minutes at a small shop where you can use the restroom, grab a coffee or snack, and receive some tips from the guide.
Once there, you will visit the renowned St. Catherine’s Monastery, one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. During the guided tour, you will see:
- The Burning Bush, believed to be the spot where Moses spoke with God according to the Bible
Moses’ Well - Ancient Byzantine icons and valuable religious artifacts
- The beautiful Basilica of the Transfiguration
Depending on the timing, you might also attend a mass or have the opportunity to talk with the monks who live there. If interested, you can visit the Icon Museum, which houses a significant collection of Christian icons.
After the visit, we head to Dahab, a coastal town where you will have time to have lunch and explore the local market. In the afternoon, we return to Sharm el Sheikh, arriving back at the hotel around 4:00 PM.
⚠️ Inside the monastery, some areas may be closed at times. Unfortunately, we don’t know in advance which ones will be open on the day of your visit.
